(The Post Millennial) – In the day following Maxine Waters’ calls for protestors to “get more confrontational,” two National Guardsmen on duty in Minneapolis were injured in what authorities are saying was a drive-by shooting, MPR News reports.
Shots were fired from a light-colored SUV at around 4:19 AM near the corner of Penn Avenue aNorth and Broadway. No arrests have been made.
Injuries to the two were reportedly minor. One was transported to the hospital with injuries from shattered glass, while the other was treated at the scene.
“I am relieved to know none of our Guardsmen were seriously injured. This event highlights the volatility and tension in our communities right now. I ask for peace as we work through this difficult time,” said Maj. Gen. Shawn Manke, adjutant general of the Minnesota National Guard.
The two Guard members were deployed in Minneapolis as part of a “neighborhood security team” for Operation Safety Net, a multi-agency security response to the ongoing Dereck Chauvin trial.
Speaking at a rally Saturday night, Democratic Representative Waters’ called for protestors to “stay on the street” and to “get more confrontational” if Chauvin is acquitted. She told protestors to “fight for justice,” and to continue to defy the curfew.

“I’m going to fight with all of the people who stand for justice. We’ve got to get justice in this country and we cannot allow these killings to continue,” Waters told reporters. “We’ve got to stay on the street and we’ve got to get more active, we’ve got to get more confrontational,” she said. “We’ve got to make sure that they know that we mean business.”
If Chauvin isn’t convicted of murder, Water’s said that “we cannot go away.”
